Tears of Malmö Navy Gin - Inspired by Malmö's shipbuilding industry

This gin is a homage to Malmö's shipbuilding industry and our maritime heritage, as well as to the craftsmanship Saturnus has stood for for 130 years. The construction of Malmö harbour began in the late 1700s and the area has developed since then. A heyday was when the shipbuilding industry was booming with the Kockums crane as the dominant feature of Malmö's skyline and the symbol of the working-class city of Malmö.

In 2002, however, this era would come to an end when the crane was dismantled and shipped to Korea. There they refer to the crane under the name "Tears of Malmö" as the city's inhabitants are said to have cried when they saw their crane, as well as landmark, being shipped away. Today, the area is no longer a place dominated by heavy industry. Apartments, offices and sun worshippers share the space in the city's new districts Västra Hamnen, Dockan and Neptunistaden. The memory of what was once one of the world's largest shipyards with the world's largest crane of its kind still lives on, and to prevent it from being forgotten, we have chosen to highlight this when we were going to make a Navy Gin.

However, a gin is only as good as its content, no matter how good the story happens to be...

That's why we've filled the bottle with 130 years of distilling experience to ensure a flawless experience.

The first stage of the fragrance is the juniper berries, which is then followed by a distinct herbaceousness. Mainly driven by meadowsweet. This is balanced by a fresh citrus note and floral notes from coriander and blackcurrant. Those with a really sharp sense of smell can also find some Swedish gruka, which adds freshness. At the end of the fragrance journey, a note reminiscent of almonds appears, but which is actually rose hips. These rose hips were picked by hand in Falsterbo by Saturnus' CEO, Edward, and his family.

In terms of taste, the gin is close to the fragrance notes. However, it becomes even clearer that it is a gin with a higher alcohol content. For that reason, Malmö Navy Gin is perfect in a Gin and Tonic, where it takes up space in a good way with juniper tones and its complementary flavors. The different stages are clear and the complexity of this gin makes neutral tonic a perfect serving.
